About
Matanzas
Movement
Collective

Founded by Christian Bergin, Matanzas Movement Collective has been offering inclusive adult classes for people of all levels since 2023. We have had the privilege to work with artists in St. Augustine, Jacksonville, and Bogota, Colombia!

Our mission is to offer low-pressure classes, with expression and emotional release being the focus, while still getting in a good workout– allowing the opportunity for connections, positivity, and healing.

We especially love to reignite the love of dance for past dancers that, over time, got away from the studio. We aim to foster a creative environment where individuals of all skill levels can express themselves and find joy in movement.

Inclusive Movement for All

At Matanzas Movement Collective, we empower dancers to explore their creativity and build confidence through movement. We believe that dance is for everyone, and our classes are designed to be supportive, positive, and inclusive. Do what feels best for your body, and the rest will follow.

Creativity Through Choreography

We blend different dance styles and techniques, crafting unique choreography that invites self-expression. We encourage everyone to come as they are, and adapt choreography in a way that works for them on that day.

Building Community Connections

Community is at the heart of what we do. We utilize dance to bring people together, creating bonds that reach beyond the studio. Through classes, performances, and events, we strive to inspire and uplift our community through the universal language of dance.

Meet Christian

Christian Bergin began studying all styles of dance at the age of 7 in Dallas, Texas. After participating in competitions, conventions, and intensives around the country, he decided to take his dance studies further and enrolled in the BFA Dance program at The University of Texas at Austin on scholarship, where he also studied marketing.

While in school, he discovered and nurtured his love for choreography and teaching. He also had the opportunity to choreograph for various shows and studios around the area, and was a company member of Simple Sparrow Dance Co. He has studied under Yakov Shari, Brian Stevens, Sidra Bell, David Justín, Charles O. Anderson, Alito Alessi, and more.

In 2015, he became a certified Dance Ability Instructor, which is a modality focused on inclusivity and the belief that everyone can dance. The fundamentals of Dance Ability continues to inform how he approaches movement, and teaching, to this day.

His passion is sharing the love of dance with everyone! It feeds his soul to reconnect former dancers with their love of dance, himself having gotten away from the art and eventually found his way home. He believes everyone can dance and that sometimes movement is the only way to express one's feelings.

When not teaching, he is an avid traveler, having visited 52 countries. He enjoys home renovation projects, woodworking, music, going to the beach, hitting the dance floor, and more!
